Walkertown Civic Club
1st ANNUAL
WALKERTOWN SPRING FLING & BBQ COOK-OFF
On May 15, 2010, the Walkertown Civic Club will sponsor a Spring Fling & BBQ Cook-off at the Walkertown Elementary School bus parking lot. We will have an area for BBQ contestants and an area for Arts and Crafts.
During the BBQ Cook-off, we will be using some of the guidelines from the North Carolina Pork Council. Because this is our first year, we will be using Boston Butts instead of whole hogs. As a result, winning the contest this year will not make the winner eligible for entry in the NC State Championship BBQ Cook-Off. It will, however, provide the winner a trophy and bragging rights to the best BBQ in Walkertown. (Other than what the Civic Club prepares). Each team will be provided with a 20 x 20 space and three (3) 6-8 pound Boston Butts for the contest. Judging will be by: On-Site Judging and Blind Taste Judging. A trophy and $100 will be awarded to the first place winner. Second place will receive a plaque and $75 and third place will receive a plaque and $50. A separate judging will be held for Showmanship, with the winner receiving a plaque.
In the Arts & Crafts area, a 10 x 10 space will be provided. This area is for handcrafted items only, no yard sale or flea market type items.
In the commercial area, a 10 x 10 space will be provided. This area is for private commercial vendors, i.e. Avon, Tupperware, etc.
